Irobu Vikria is an adolescent female Sanusite--a member of a technologically advanced and theocratic society living on the northern half of the continent Tributius. Splitting her time between mining with her family and learning about the Sanusite's patron deity Hekal, Irobu leads a model life. Her way of life is imperiled however, when her family uncovers a mysterious passage in their mine. As the smallest member of the family, Irobu is fatefully sent to investigate. Within, she accidentally releases the remnant of a long forgotten king, who mistakenly cohabits her body. Irobu subsequently flees her home because the king commits heresy--and worse--while she is sleeping. Determined to banish the uninvited guest, Irobu travels across the continent to join the one group that might be capable of such a feat: the Esteemed Sodality of Excursionists. Though as Irobu eventually finds out, the Sodality is not what it once was...
