Is magic real?
Belief in magic has waxed and waned according to the attitudes of a given time. But now, in the land of Creusa, a continent held aloft by a series of spells and incantations, it is a matter of fact.
The ability to perceive magic is referred to as the Talent, and a whole third of Creusa’s population can manipulate the very fabrics of reality to some degree. Most can only perform small tasks- levitating a card, creating a flame. But some, a Talented few, can move mountains. They can perform impossible tasks, parting seas and sundering stones with mere thoughts.
Tobias Gray, amateur fortune teller and professional urchin, wants nothing more than to become one of them. With no formal training, his Talent manifests itself in a bizarre way: he can see into the future seemingly at random. However, a boy of sixteen who spent the beginnings of his teenage life grifting on street corners does not a Mage make. Toby has never even seen a true Mage. But he's got dreams that come true, literally. Why can't this one too?
