Neme.sys(1) /// The Lost Child
While I plan to keep things casual and fun where appropriate, I should warn you that this story contains content that some people may find unsettling, such as graphic descriptions of gore and violence, explicit themes of abuse and trauma, explicit sexual themes, and profanity.
I will include trigger warnings (TW) prior to sections that contain particularly disturbing content (like sexual assault and suicide). I only intend to describe these scenes in as much detail as necessary to understand the negative impact they have on the characters. If you're using a reader with a search function, you may skip these sections by typing "TW_end." Just be warned that they may also contain information that is intended to help you understand the story. Now that you're informed, the decision is yours.
It's hard to live a peaceful life when it was never meant to last this long.
Veronika Zima had spent so long avoiding death, but it just wasn't worth the effort. They were never meant to leave their birthplace. How could someone with a history of extreme violence and the power to warp space ever hope to function in polite society?
So imagine their surprise when a girl — Emi, was it? — shows up and offers to be their friend after jumping off the boat to save them. Is this what they've been missing? Is it enough?
Nika knows there's worse to come. If their sophomore year so far is any indication, life can always get worse. But maybe having a friend will make it less painful this time…
…Wait, this time?
It's hard to live a peaceful life when your nightmares are this vivid.
Emilia Fennel has lived a pretty normal life. But some things about her past just don't add up. Her mother told her that Aisha was the name of a runaway cat. But Emilia doesn't remember having a cat. What are those tall creatures that haunt her dreams? Had she and her mother always lived in Verbena City? Is it normal to get this many nosebleeds? How does this whole 'ESP' thing work, anyway?
And what's up with Nika? Or rather, what's the universe's problem with them? As far as Emilia's concerned, her friend is just trying to get by. She's not just going to sit by and let them suffer on their own.
There's something else going on here. And I'm going to find out what it is.
